New Faculty Focus: Bios & Believe-It-or-Nots!

By day, they work in major positions in the publishing industry. By night, they are often in the classroom, helping NYU M. S. in Publishing: Digital and Print Media students understand the intricacies of publishing. But away from work or school, the new faculty members joining our program this semester have some surprising hobbies, passions, or legacies. A business manager who has a belly dancing background? A publisher and chief revenue officer who was a competitive/sponsored skateboarder and snowboarder? A designer who sidelines as an acoustic guitar player? Read on to find out some surprising fun facts about the new faces at the front of the classroom:

Prior to joining Time Inc., he was Online Director at T: the New York Times Style Magazine; Articles Editor and Deputy Editor at Condé Nast’s Details; Contributing Editor and Editor-in-Chief of F+W Media’s I.D.; Editorial Director of the Tribeca Film Festival; and Editor at V Man. Jesse earned his degree from Wesleyan University.
Once, on an assignment, Jesse swam to the very edge of Victoria Falls, in southern Africa, and peeked over.

Faye earned her degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Faye received the funding to seed the startup Brokelyn from Susan Smpadian, the cab driving, New Yorker-to-the-core, zippy, colorful writer Faye wrote about in her first story for the New York Post; Susan bequeathed Faye money (for reasons that continue to mystify Faye), so it made sense to start a site about the city!

He began his career writing for newspapers in Chicago. Michael received his degree from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
In high school Michael was part of what was called a Constitution Team—like a debate club except that they focused on the U.S. Constitution; in 1999 the team debated before Congressional staff members why the Equal Rights Amendment should be passed into law, helping to propel the team to a national championship.
